ROAD CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

For commune development and humanitarian assistance
I- LOCATION
Commune of Phneou, district of Santuk, province of Kompong Thom, located approximately 140km
from Phnom Penh. A cluster of 3 villages: Phum Phneou, Phum Trueuy Oe and Phum Khorng Meas.
The commune covers an area of 20 km2 of land.
II- DEMOGRAPHY
Number of inhabitants in the commune: 2500. Population made up of farmers and their families.
III- ECONOMIC ACTIVITIES
Rice farming, and occasionally
1. during the rainy season: Farming
2. during the dry season: Farming
IV- ASSISTANCE REQUESTED BY INHABITANTS IN THE COMMUNE
Requesting monetary assistance for a new 700 meters gravel road construction.
This new road will allow 2500 farmer families to use for daily needs.
V- RATIONALE BEHIND THIS PROJECT
During the rainy season, inhabitants in Phneou Commune have limited ability in
transferring goods to the market due to the flood; to reach the market, people need
to travel by foot, and because of the lack of road leading into the commune, almost
no transportation ever reach the three village. The new road will provide people with
direct access to their destination within a short period of time and allow
transportation into the commune.
